2011 BodyboardBet Shark Island Challenge

The 2011 BodyboardBet Shark Island Challenge, 2nd June – 25th July. An IBA specialty event presented by RYDGES and supported by Emerald, Riptide , Paramount Concrete and Uptown Group.

The 2011 BODYBOARDBET SIC (Shark Island Challenge) sanctioned by the IBA (International Bodyboarding Association) is set to run as a bodyboarding specialty event in the 2-month break period of the GSS world tour.
The 2nd June will be the kick-off to this spectacular event in the southern suburbs of Sydney at Cronulla. The waiting period will extend till the 25th July during that time we will be seeking the best day of swell for the SIC 2011 to get the green light. The event will be a one-day event consisting of 16 invitees from around the world. There will also be a trials event at the beginning of this waiting period with the top 4 finalists joining the 16 invitees to tackle the infamous Shark Island.

The 16 invitee’s are as listed:
Locals: Andrew Lester, Dave Ballard, Christian “Rissole” Riguccini – (1st place 1999), Adam “Wingnut” Smith, Sam Strachan & Shaun Pyne.
Australian: Ryan Hardy – (1st place 2010 & 2006), Ben Player – (1st place 2007 & 2008) , Dave Winchester , Damian King (1st place 2001) & Mitch Rawlins.
Internationals: Mike Stewart (1st place 2000), Jeff Hubbard, Guilherme Tamega (1st place 2002, 2003 & 2004) , Pierre Louis Costes & Jared Houston.These competitors will be fighting it out for a cash pool of $10,000 and the stigma of being crowned the 2011 Shark Island Challenge WINNER!
The Brett Young Memorial Trials event will be held on the 2nd or 3rd June on the best swell day. The swell forecast is looking very promising for Thursday and Friday with an East swell in the 4-6ft range with offshore winds. This one-day event will consist of 64 competitors from around the globe.
The official 2011 Bodyboardbet Shark Island Challenge launch night will be held on Sunday 5th June at 6:00pm at Rydges Hotel in Cronulla. This is where the heat draw will be taking place, with the majority of the 20 competitors in attendance along with the announcement of the live betting odds through www.bodyboardbet.com

"Magic Mike," Steven Soderbergh's dramatic comedy set in the world of male strippers, will have its world premiere as the closing night program of the Los Angeles Film Festival next month. Alex Uranga Wins 2011 Nissan Reunion Bodyboard Pro!

Alex Uranga from the Basque Country in northern Spain is the winner of the   2011 Nissan Reunion Bodyboard Pro at Les Archers in Saint-Pierre, Reunion. Uranga, 22, who won the trials into the main event, took his winning streak all the way to the final, defeating Jake Stone from Dunsborough in Western Australia, with minutes to go, in glassy four to six foot waves. The Basque was carried on the shoulders of his brother and a friend from the water’s edge to the presentation area while the crowd whistled and cheered for him. He dedicated his win to all the people who believed in him back in the Basque Country. “It’s incredible”, said Alex Uranga, “I can’t put these feelings into words”. Jake Stone, 22, beat reigning world champion and local, Amaury Lavernhe in the quarterfinal and Frenchman Pierre-Louis Costes in the semifinal.
