Kelly Slater Receives Key to the City

Last night, the Mayor of Huntington Beach, Joe Carchio, presented the key to Surf City to Kelly Slater, Quiksilver’s very own 10X ASP World Surf champion, for his contribution to the sport of surfing, as well as the city.
Downtown Huntington Beach was a buzz with thousands of fans onsite to help support the Champ.
During his acceptance speech, it was very clear how much this gesture meant to Kelly, and his appreciation for the City of Huntington Beach, its residents, and his fans was made well known. Many of Kelly’s longtime friends and family were also in attendance to help celebrate this exciting milestone.

"Magic Mike," Steven Soderbergh's dramatic comedy set in the world of male strippers, will have its world premiere as the closing night program of the Los Angeles Film Festival next month. The film, which stars Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum, opens theatrically on June 29. The festival, June 14-24 at L.A. Live's Regal Cinemas downtown as well as at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and REDCAT, announced its lineup Tuesday morning. Film Independent, which presents the festival, previously had announced the opening night presentation (Woody Allen's "To Rome With Love") and its three galas ("Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Middle of Nowhere" and "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World"). The fest, sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, will screen more than 200 features, shorts and music videos. Alex Uranga Wins 2011 Nissan Reunion Bodyboard Pro!

Alex Uranga from the Basque Country in northern Spain is the winner of the   2011 Nissan Reunion Bodyboard Pro at Les Archers in Saint-Pierre, Reunion. Uranga, 22, who won the trials into the main event, took his winning streak all the way to the final, defeating Jake Stone from Dunsborough in Western Australia, with minutes to go, in glassy four to six foot waves. The Basque was carried on the shoulders of his brother and a friend from the water’s edge to the presentation area while the crowd whistled and cheered for him. He dedicated his win to all the people who believed in him back in the Basque Country. “It’s incredible”, said Alex Uranga, “I can’t put these feelings into words”. Jake Stone, 22, beat reigning world champion and local, Amaury Lavernhe in the quarterfinal and Frenchman Pierre-Louis Costes in the semifinal.
