Justin Timberlake is looking once again to a social network for a career hit, and this time it's Myspace. Last year, the pop singer won critical acclaim for his portrayal of Sean Parker, one of Facebook's early leaders and a co-founder of the former file-sharing service Napster. As noted on our sister blog  Company Town  on Wednesday, Irvine-based Specific Media announced that it had bought Myspace from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. for $35 million in cash and equity -- a far cry from the $580 million that News Corp. paid for it just six years ago, when Facebook wasn't seen as much of a threat.

Supermodel  Kate Moss  is set to marry her rock-and-roll boyfriend  Jamie Hince  this Friday July 1, 2011 in an event that is expected to last three days and cost Moss more than 500,000 British pounds. Groom Jamie Hince is best known as lead guitarist for the band  The Kills  which he formed with songwriter Alison Mosshart  in 2000. According to  The Daily Mail , Kate's wedding dress will be made by designer  John Galliano , who is currently in rehab and is dealing with an on-going court case following several alleged racist outbursts while drinking in Paris. Galliano's dress for Moss is rumored to be a vintage 1920s-style gown. The wedding festivities after the ceremony will span three days and will include a formal dinner, a karaoke party where Kate is hoping her guests will join her on stage to sing and rumored performances by rapper  Snoop Dogg and original punk rocker  Iggy Pop . Movie mogul wants to build 2 Hawaii studios By Associated Press @ Star Advertiser WAILEA, Maui >> A movie mogul who lives part time on Maui wants to build two film studios in Hawaii and is lobbying for more film tax credits in the state, the Maui News reported Friday. Relativity Media CEO Ryan Kavanaugh spoke at the Hawaii State Association of Counties conference where he outlined his plans to reinvigorate the film industry in the islands by building two studios that he said could create thousands of jobs. Kavanaugh and his partners, Shangri-La Entertainment, want to build 40-acre studios on Maui and Oahu. He promised to establish a program to train locals to work in the industry. "I have a home here in Maui, and my home has become my favorite place in the world," he said. "And this state has become my favorite place in the world." It makes you want to dash off a "could have been great, if only they'd tried harder" note to the parents.

After a much-publicized departure from hosting NBC's Tonight Show - and the severing of a 22-year relationship with the network - O'Brien hit the road with a 32-city music-and-comedy show to exercise his performing chops and exorcise a few demons. The "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour" was O'Brien's answer to a contractual stipulation that banned his appearance on television, radio and the Internet for six months following his last show. Filmmaker Rodman Flender's resulting documentary, Conan O'Brien Can't Stop, is an intimate portrait of an artist trained in improvisation, captured at the most improvisational time of his career. It offers a window into the private writers room and rehearsal halls as O'Brien's "half-assed show" (his words) is almost instantly assembled and mounted to an adoring fan base.

Kelly Slater Receives Key to the City From our friends at Quiksilver… Last night, the Mayor of Huntington Beach, Joe Carchio, presented the key to Surf City to Kelly Slater, Quiksilver’s very own 10X ASP World Surf champion, for his contribution to the sport of surfing, as well as the city. Downtown Huntington Beach was a buzz with thousands of fans onsite to help support the Champ. During his acceptance speech, it was very clear how much this gesture meant to Kelly, and his appreciation for the City of Huntington Beach, its residents, and his fans was made well known.
